Vision :
     Development of innovations and technologies to address the challenges of producing more vegetable oil for the growing population in the event of declining land and water resources due to climate change.

Mission and Key Objectives:
•    To promote and undertake research on all aspects of Oil Palm production.
•    Basic, strategic and applied research on genetic resource management, crop improvement and production technologies for      enhancing productivity of oil palm. 
•    Transfer of technologies and capacity building of stakeholders for increasing production of oil palm.

1.1.4Function and duties

ICAR-IIOPR Pedavegi is a constituent unit of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, an autonomous body under the Department of Agricultural Research & Education, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India. Director is the executive head of the institute and is the chairman of the Institute Management Committee (IMC) which is responsible for all policy and decision making regarding the functioning of institute. Research Advisory Committee (RAC) reviews the research achievements of the institute andits consistency in view of the mandate of the institute and suggests research programmes based on national/global context of research in the thrust areas. Director is also chairman of the Institute Research Council (IRC) that monitors the progress of research projects. The research and extension activities at the institute are looked after by the respective Heads / In-charges of Divisions / Units. The institute Joint Staff Council (IJSC) looks after the grievance and welfare of staff members of the institute.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research established the National Research Centre for Oil Palm (NRCOP) at Pedavegi in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh on February 19,1995. Later during 2009, the Institute was renamed as Directorate of Oil Palm Research (DOPR). In November 2014, DOPR was upgraded as ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (ICAR-IIOPR) to cater to oil palm research requirements across the country.
