The Biotechnology laboratory at ICAR-IIOPR involved in oil palm genomics and marker assisted breeding programmes. It has developed several molecular technologies like CAPS molecular marker for fruit form identification and identified molecular marker for dwarf trait in oil palm. The lab also mapped several QTLs through genotyping by sequencing and SSR markers for traits like dwarf, yield, oil yield and bunch analysis parameters. It has finger print of the germplasm available at the institute. It has developed first oil palm microsatellite database (OpsatdB) which allow users to search for microsatellite markers based on their requirement. The lab developed first oil palm microsatellite panel consisting of 30 SSRs for true to type and illegitimate identification in oil palm. Besides this, the lab involved in screening of fruit form for supply of mother palms to the different seed gardens across India.
