ICAR-IIOPR organised Industry meet on March 11, 2026 to popularise and commercialize oil palm technologies developed by the Institute. Dr. K. Suresh, Director, Scientists from ICAR-IIOPR and a 6 member Team from Godrej Agrovet Ltd., led by Mr. Sougata Niyogi, CEO, participated in the programme. ICAR-IIOPR signed MoUs with Godrej Agrovet Ltd., for commercialization of three ICAR-IIOPR technologies. The scientists of ICAR-IIOPR made presentations and explained about the importance of these technologies for successful and profitable oil palm cultivation.
Technology 1. Aspergillus sp. R55, a biocontrol agent for Rugose Spiralling Whitefly (RSW) and its mass production technology – Biocontrol agent R55 is as effective as any chemical pesticide against RSW, ecofriendly and at low cost.
Technology 2. RPA-LFA based diagnostic methodology for early detection of Ganoderma-induced Basal Stem Rot (BSR) in oil palm – This test is highly sensitive, highly specific, and enables earlier detection of BSR disease than PCR under field conditions.
Technology 3. Molecular marker technology for fruit form identification in oil palm at early stage - These markers help in identification of non tenera contamination at nursery level, thus saving money, land, time and resources.
Godrej Agrovet Ltd., has also expressed interest in establishment of two new oil palm seed gardens in Telangana and Goa and ICAR-IIOPR will undertake feasibility studies for site selection and DPR preparation. A consultancy proposal has also been signed to this effect. The ceremonial field planting of oil palm tissue culture plants successfully developed by ICAR-IIOPR was also taken up on this occasion.
