IIOPR RC Palode

ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, Research Centre, Palode was established as a sub station of Central Arecanut Research Station during 1959 for taking up research on Arecanut crop and developed production technologies. It was merged with Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (ICAR), Kasaragod during 1970. The research on arecanut was slowly phased out and importance was given to research on oil palm. This centre was finally merged with NRC for Oil Palm during April, 1999 in order to unify oil palm research. Research Centre at Palode is 35 km away from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala state. Major activities of the center includes Oil palm hybrid seed production and developing technologies for oil palm under rainfed conditions.
