ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research

Research on Oil Palm under irrigated conditions is practically a new start and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research established the National Research Centre for Oil Palm (NRCOP) at Pedavegi in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh on February 19,1995. Later during 2009, the Institute was renamed as Directorate of Oil Palm Research (DOPR). In November 2014, DOPR was upgraded as ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (ICAR-IIOPR) to cater to oil palm research requirements across the country.

IIOPR serves as a centre for conducting and coordinating research on all aspects of oil palm conservation, improvement, production, protection, post-harvest technology and transfer of technology. Oil palm, the highest vegetable oil yielding perennial crop is being promoted by Govt. of India to address the challenge of producing more vegetable oil for the growing population. ICAR-IIOPR is the only Institute in India mandated with oil palm research. Systematic efforts are being made at this Institute to meet the research needs of oil palm sector and thereby increase area, production and productivity of the crop.
